Alexander Neroslavsky wuchs in der Sowjetunion auf, einem Land, das man im Prinzip nicht verlassen durfte. Der Einfluss von Medien und Kultur aus anderen Ländern wurde streng kontrolliert. Dennoch blieb er als Jude auch in der Sowjetunion etwas fremd. Als er 1995 mit seiner Familie nach Deutschland zog, empfand er dies als Befreiung. Er nutzte diese Freiheit, um beispielsweise Reisen nach Italien, Spanien, Frankreich und Portugal zu unternehmen. Dort war er auch gewissermaßen fremd – aber diese Perspektive, als Fremder und Europäer zugleich, eröffnete ihm einen ganz besonderen Zugang zu den Menschen und den Orten. Über die bildnerische Auseinandersetzung damit hat er sich so Stück für Stück Europa angenähert und zu seiner Heimat gemacht.

Alexander Neroslavsky wychował się w Związku Radzieckim, kraju, poza który w zasadzie nie wolno było wyjeżdżać. Ściśle kontrolowano wpływ mediów i kultury innych krajów. Niemniej jednak jako Żyd pozostał w pewnym sensie obcy również w Związku Radzieckim. Kiedy w 1995 roku zamieszkał z rodziną w Niemczech, odczuł to jako wyzwolenie. Korzystał z tej wolności, podróżując m.in. do Włoch, Hiszpanii, Francji i Portugalii. Ale i tam był do pewnego stopnia obcy – ale ta perspektywa, jako obcy i Europejczyk zarazem, umożliwiła mu bardzo szczególny kontakt z ludźmi i miejscami. Poprzez wizualną eksplorację tych miejsc, stopniowo zbliżał się do Europy i uczynił ją swoim domem.

Alexander Neroslavsky grew up in the Soviet Union, a country that in principle one was not allowed to leave. The influence of media and culture from other countries was strictly controlled. Nevertheless, as a Jew, he remained somewhat of a stranger in the Soviet Union as well. When he moved to Germany with his family in 1995, he felt it was a liberation. He used this freedom to travel to Italy, Spain, France and Portugal, for example. He was also a stranger there, so to speak – but this perspective, as a foreigner and European at the same time, gave him a very special approach to the people and the places. Through the artistic exploration of that, he gradually approached Europe and made it his home.
