Calm country (video)

Landscapes of Upper Lusatia – and things we encounter in these landscapes – as aesthetically stylised metaphors for the state of the world: associatively linked black and white snapshots that convey everything but a black and white world view.

Rather, they create an indefinite restlessness and a free space in those things that are seen “supposedly a thousand times”: An empty space that invites the viewer to fill it with new thoughts. It is good that the country is not at all as quiet as the title announces; instead it is screaming.

———-

I often experienced my father using his photo or film camera. That made an impression on me. When I was 18, I borrowed a single-lens reflex camera from him. Since then, the desire to take photographs stayed with me. Born in 1956 near Leipzig, I now live in Upper Lusatia. Various activities and professional trainings, as well as working with disabled people, are part of my life. Since 1990 I have been taking photographs on a freelance basis. Besides my own photo projects, which have been shown in numerous exhibitions, I work as a photo-journalist.

Numerous exhibitions since the beginning of the 1990s, among others in Bautzen, Berlin, Dresden and Görlitz.
