„Meine eigene biografische Verbindung – israelisch-irakisch-jüdisch, in Deutschland lebend, Kunst im europäischen Kontext betreibend – hat mir oft das Gefühl gegeben, eine Statue zu sein, ein exotisches Artefakt, das in einem Museum betrachtet wird, oder eine aus dem Zusammenhang gerissene politische Diskussion. Es scheint also, dass Europa für mich nie eine „Heimat“ sein kann, da ich immer eine Fremde sein werde, ein Farbklecks auf dem Bild eines Museumsgegenstandes. Wenn ich mir jedoch die Entwicklung der heutigen „globalen“ Gesellschaft vor Augen führe, frage ich mich, ob man überhaupt noch eine „Heimat“ anstreben kann? Oder wäre es passender, die Idee des Fremdwerdens zu erforschen, indem man die durch Definitionen gezogenen Grenzen aus unterschiedlichen Gründen in Frage stellt?“
In ihrer Arbeit (r)evolving suspensions beschäftigt sich Liat Grayver mit Spannungen, die zwischen Fragen der Identität, dem Streben nach Zugehörigkeit und Entfremdung entstehen.

„Moje własne więzi biograficzne – izraelsko-irańska Żydówka, mieszkająca w Niemczech, tworząca sztukę w kontekście europejskim – sprawiały, że często czułam się jak posąg, egzotyczny artefakt oglądany w muzeum lub wyrwana z kontekstu dyskusja polityczna. Wydaje się więc, że Europa nigdy nie może być dla mnie „domem”, bo zawsze będę obcą, plamą koloru na obrazie obiektu muzealnego. Kiedy jednak rozważam rozwój dzisiejszego „globalnego” społeczeństwa, zadaję sobie pytanie, czy w ogóle można jeszcze aspirować do „domu“? A może właściwsze byłoby dążenie do idei stawania się obcym, która rzuca wyzwanie granicom wyznaczanym przez definicje wynikające z różnych konieczności?”
W swojej pracy (r)evolving suspensions Liat Grayver zajmuje się napięciami, które rodzą się pomiędzy pytaniami o tożsamość, poszukiwaniem przynależności i alienacją.

“My own biographical connection-Israeli-Iraqi-Jewish, living in Germany, performing art in the European context, has often made me feel like a statue, an exotic artifact being viewed in a museum, or like a political discussion taken out of context. So it seems that Europe can never be a “home” for me, because I will always be an étrangère, a splash of color on the picture of a museum object. However, when I reflect on the evolution of today’s “global” society, I ask myself whether one can still aspire to a “homeland” at all? Or would it be more fitting to explore the idea of becoming foreign while challenging for different reasons the boundaries drawn by definitions?”
In her work (r)evolving suspensions, Liat Grayver deals with tensions that arise between questions of identity, the quest for belonging, and alienation.
